At a recent meeting of the CFPOA Board of Directors Bill Hodsdon, 354 Cottage Farm Drive. was asked to share his experience with invasive growth along the rear edge of his property bordering the catchment area we call “the pond”. Bill & his wife Gail found a large quantity of Dollar Weed and Chamber Bitter spreading into the lawn. They contacted York Glover, a Clemson Extension representative (YGLOVER@clemson.edu) to get more information on these invasive weeds. He visited and after observing them he added False Nutsedge , Lespedezia, and Vaseygrass to the list. He recommended Bravo for safe pond-side use. He also suggested that a layer of fabric or plastic covered with mulch and planted with Sweet Grass would control bank erosion and weeds.
An article by Ken Langeland, University of Florida (kal@ifas.ufl.edu), recommended BRUSH-Be-Gone and any brush killer containing triclopyr amine or Roundup Super Concentate containing glyphosate as products known to control these weeds. The application of these products are described on the labels as “pre, during or post” appearance of the weeds. Please ensure whatever product you use is safe for your particular variety of grass.
We hope this information will be helpful.
Sincerely, Bill and Gail Hodsdon, Lot 41, Cottage Farm, gshodsdon@islc.net.
